Chassis number AM 115 *926* started life as a Maserati Ghibli 4700 Coupé before being converted into a Spyder by Giordanengo, Autorestauro in Boves, Italy.
During this conversion process the car also underwent a complete body as well as mechanical overhaul with every item of work being carried out to the highest possible standard, using only original Maserati parts, including but not limited to:
Complete disassembling, vermiculage and sanding of the bodywork, including the necessary reinforcement work to the body and finish in original Maserati polylustre - Oro chiaro metallizzato - paint.
New windscreen, windows, hood frame, new electrical wiring loom, new tyres, new battery.
The engine has undergone a complete rebuild at 62.000 kms; with new pistons and piston rings, con-rod bearings, timing chains, clutch, starter and alternator.
All mechanical and ancilliary components checked and replaced where necessary, new cooling fans, new stainless steel exhaust system, major service with complete overhaul of the Weber carburettors.
Interior re-upholstered in green leather; seats, trim and dashboard, with new all-wool carpets by Ferraresi in Ferrara, Italy. New hood to original Maserati specification.
This beautiful Maserati Ghibli is in excellent condition and in perfect working order for almost half the price of an original Spyder.
Naturally, the car comes with a complete pictured documentation as well as all invoices of the restauration and conversion process.
Available directly with European registration, this Spyder is ready to be driven and enjoyed at the coastline of the Côte d'Azur.
The Maserati Ghibli was offered as a convertible from 1969 until 1972, with the same dry sump 4.7 liter V8 as the coupé.
The clean lines that characterized Giugiaro's design were a visual delight, the classic proportions of the front-engine configuration with a long hood and steeply raked windscreen produced this effect. It was strictly a two-seater.
The fabric roof folded away neatly underneath a rear deck panel behind the seats and could be raised or lowered in just a matter of minutes. A stunning factory hardtop with large windows made the car a practical companion for all seasons, although only between 20 and 25 Ghibli Spyders were ever sold with it, making it an accessory that is in high demand among collectors today.
Along with the Simùn prototype, the Ghibli Spyder was one of the last projects Giugiaro worked on for Ghia in 1967 before setting up his own consultancy. In the 4.7 guise the Ghibli Spyder was capable of reaching speeds of 250 kph.
