After making a splash on the exotic-car scene with the C8 Spyder and Laviolette, the Dutch sports car maker, Spyker, took the veils off of the C8 Aileron, which employs an entirely new aluminum space-frame chassis, bigger than that of the Laviolette and the Spyder.
The new 2-seater boasts classic supercar dimensions, sitting wide and low. Seen up close, the Aileron exudes the air of an exotic, with an elegant-yet-aggressive bodystyle that would turn the heads of Ferrari faithfuls.
The car's lines flow from front to rear, with a face highlighted by large canted headlights and a big oval grille. The vents on the hood and various jet fighter cues on the side of the car are not-so-subtle hints as to what this car can do on a track.
Also making a fashion statement is the 5-piece luggage set designed by Louis Vuitton. It commemorates the French luggage maker's sponsorship on the 1907 Spyker Peking-to-Paris race car, and is available for a nominal 20.000 Euro.
Mounted amidships is Audi's 4.2-liter V8 that produces 400 bhp and 35.4 [Nm] of torque. It's mated to either a 6-speed Getrag manual gearbox or a 6-speed ZF automatic transmission.
The handling balance remaines near neutral as the Lotus-tuned suspension upper and lower A-arms at all four corners with Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks keep the car stable and the rear end from coming out. But if you're careless, the Aileron will bite you like any 400-bhp mid-engine supercar.
One of the true joys of driving the new Spyker is listening to the rumble of the engine at full throttle. It sounds like a race car, which was Spyker's intent, with performance to match.
According the company, the car will dash to 100 [km/h] in 4.5 seconds before reaching its 300 [km/h] top speed.
The C8 Aileron will be exclusive. And if you like exquisitely styled cars, you might just check out this latest piece of artwork from the Netherlands.
